Reedstrom Bishop to Present at Nonprofit Legal and Accountability Conference

Nonprofit managers, attorneys and advisors will gather in Minneapolis on Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2005 for a one-day conference on legal and accountability issues. Sponsored by the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits, and co-sponsored by Charities Review Council, GuideStar, Independent Sector, LegalCORPS, MAP for Nonprofits, Nonprofit Assistance Fund, and Nonprofit Financial Group, the Nonprofit Legal and Accountability Conference will address some of the primary issues, challenges and trends facing nonprofits.

The Conference is especially timely given the media’s increased attention to issues of nonprofit governance, Congress’s consideration of comprehensive nonprofit regulatory reforms and higher levels of enforcement by the IRS. Luncheon keynote speaker Rosie Johnson, Director of Exempt Organizations Examinations for the Internal Revenue Service, will address the IRS’ new stance on enforcement of public charity and private foundation laws. During the morning plenary, conference participants will learn about innovations and practices to implement voluntary accountability measures. Curbside consultants from LegalCORPS and KDV will be on hand throughout the day to offer 30 minutes of pro bono legal and accounting consultation during the conference.

Gray Plant Mooty attorney <Jennifer Reedstrom Bishop will present along side Bobbie Lenz, executive director of UDAC Inc. in a session titled “Care, Loyalty, Obedience: Learn, Understand, and Live Your Governance Duties.” This session is designed for board members who want to learn how to better fulfill their fiduciary duties and ensure their organization fulfills its legal responsibilities, and for nonprofit managers who want to better support their board members with these duties.
