Gray Plant Mooty’s Dorraine Larison Honored with Pro Bono Publico Award
MINNEAPOLIS, MN (December 21, 2009) — The Minneapolis-based law firm of Gray Plant Mooty (GPM) is pleased to announce that Dorraine Larison, a principal with the firm’s St. Cloud office, is the recipient of the Pro Bono Publico award from the Minnesota Legal Services Coalition.
The Minnesota Legal Services Coalition is an association of seven regional legal services programs that help low-income Minnesotans with a broad range of civil legal matters. Every two years, the coalition gives its Pro Bono Publico award to one or more individuals in recognition of their untiring efforts to provide civil legal services, to preserve the human dignity of disadvantaged Minnesota citizens, and to advance the cause of equal justice for all. Larison, Michael Ford, president of the Minnesota State Bar Association, and Judith Rehak, executive director of the Legal Services Advisory Committee, are the 2009 honorees.
Larison was nominated for the award by Jean Lastine, executive director of Central Minnesota Legal Services. Larison helped Central Minnesota Legal Services’ Volunteer Attorney Program in St. Cloud establish a debtor clinic and she has been instrumental in establishing a similar clinic in the Moorhead area. A third clinic based on this model is currently being established in Duluth. In addition to her direct service work, Larison has also donated her time by giving numerous Continuing Legal Education (CLE) seminars on bankruptcy and its intersection with family law.
Larison concentrates her practice in the areas of bankruptcy law, debtor/creditor law, and employment law. She has extensive experience in the areas of commercial financing, creditors’ rights, and creditor bankruptcy matters. Larison works with banks and other creditors, assisting her clients with the many facets of their businesses. Her practice includes representing employers in personnel-related matters. Larison has conducted hundreds of training sessions relating to harassment, discipline, and other employment law matters. She also represents employers in defending employment-related claims.
Larison joined Gray Plant Mooty in 1989 and became a principal in 1996. She is currently the chair of the firm’s pro bono committee.
